Our iron mine in Dushanbe city of Tajikistan is located 35 km from Dushanbe city, and has the capacity of producing 10 million metric tons per annum (Mtpa) high quality concentrated fine powder.

At first glance

We are a leading TAJIKISTAN producer and exporter of premium iron ore pellets and high-grade concentrate with average iron grades greater than 66%. Our operations include a mine with five operational pits, a concentrator and a pelletizing plant located near DUSHANBE City. PIER is located in the region known as “DANGARA”, an established basin with significant deposits for the supply of high-grade iron ore.

We also operate a wholly-owned 418 km railway, 800 WAGONS. We have a nameplate capacity to produce 10 million metric tons per year (Mtpa) of high-grade concentrate fines, of which up to 5.5 Mtpa can be processed into a range of higher value pellets. We take pride in ensuring our products are of consistent, reliable and replicable quality; within cargoes and between cargoes.

Iron ore is the primary metal used in steelmaking, and steel is the most commonly used alloy around the globe. Iron ore, since its earliest known use as a metal in ancient times, has turned from a remnant of industrial age into the driving force behind a commodity super-cycle that reshaped global economy.

According to World Steel Association, steel demand is expected to increase by 1% to 2% in the next decade. Iron ore prices went up to the highest levels in 2021, reaching to $237,57 per ton in May, and the global demand accelerated due to continuous demand threats which was the fluctuation effect of pandemic, and only after then the price per ton was fixed around $100.

Iron ore is the primary raw material for steelmaking. Steel is strong, offering long life cycle and affordable cost – which makes it excellent for use in everything, from washing machines to cars, bridges and skyscrapers. According to World Steel Association, steel is the most commonly used alloy around the world. Global steel consumption is expected to increase by 2% in the next decade.

The earliest known use of steel was in Cyprus, where archeologists found pieces of steel-ware. Four centuries later, Greek historian mentions of steel inlay bowls, and Southern Indian craftsmen were known to produce steel by smelting wrought iron on charcoal. Bessemer steel production process is developed in mid 1850s by English inventor Henry Bessemer.

In the mid 20th century, Bessemer process was refined into Basic Oxygen Process which is still in use with high temperature incinerators. Today, new technologies have a great potential to improve our ways to make contact with markets. For example, our customers at China port can place order for iron or through a mobile app.

Our Products

With a high-quality iron ore reserve and a long mine life, PIER is a global leader in the high quality iron ore sector, producing premium DR and BF pellets and sinter feed. PIER’s pellets and concentrate are high grade products with world leading low alumina and ultra-low phosphorus, beneficial to the iron & steel industry.

These pellets are high quality with a clean chemistry, which helps to lower the carbon footprint, compared to lower quality grades and forms of iron ore, when used in the iron & steel industry. We take pride in ensuring that these products are of consistent, reliable and replicable quality; within cargoes and between cargoes.

We target niche, high value segments of the railway iron ore market, including high-grade, low-impurity fines, premium blast furnace pellets and premium direct reduction pellets. These products, within the broader iron ore market, have seen a significant and sustained increase in demand from both blast furnaces and electric arc furnace steel producers.

This is because our high-grade, low-impurity products enable steelmakers to operate more productively and produce higher quality steels while meeting increasingly stringent environmental standards. PIER has sales teams located in all major steelmaking regions of the world who are able to discuss PIER’s high quality products, provide support and direction in maximizing the benefit available from our premium pellets and fines.
